It’s Monday, I took a sick day to bring my wife to a conference for her work in Woburn, MA...because we had to get within one astronomical unit of Boston, that 80 minute drive took 2 and a half hours. Now I’m just sitting here until she’s done, thinking about how to handle my newly purchased Barracuda project car.

Not my picture, I wont have the car until the 18th.

I think what’ll happen is that the engine will go straight to my dad’s house, where it’ll get put on a stand and we can get to work on getting it unstuck. The rest of the car will come to my house, I’ll get it into the garage and up on jack stands to start looking at the suspension. The car has been off the road since 1974 or so, so there’s some rehab work to be done.

Tires, shocks, bushings, add front and rear sway bars, replace a few broken wheel studs (I’m guessing they’re on the right side and that they’re left handed threads, which is apprently something Chrysler did back then). I want to have the wheels off it for as little time as I can, being able to move the car in and out of the garage is good since I use the garage for other stuff sometimes.

The engine will go to the machine shop and get cleaned up/looked over/bored 20 over. Put it back together with new pistons and decked heads, find a 4bbl manifold, get some shorty headers and a true dual exhaust on it. Nothing big, maybe 2 1/4 or 2 inch all the way back.

Inside we’ll get new carpet, reupholster the seats where necessary, and...that’s about it. It has a tach added to the dash, which is really all it needs, since I’ve got that sweet sweet 4 speed goodness going.

Anyway, I've got like another three hours of sitting here to do, so I guess I'll go find lunch.

Quite bored. At work, three things on my list: two with uncertain urgentness and one with almost none. I’d be doing some planning out of my project car stuff except I can’t think straight.

It’s a pretty decent list. The only stuff that’s before-it’s-driven important is the stuck engine and suspension stuff. I’ll run it with the stock exhaust and a 2bbl for a little while before getting the 4bbl on it. We're going to be piecing it together, I wish I had the cash to drop on fixing it all at once, but I just spent all of my money on the car, haha.

Thankfully I was able to drive the Montego for a while before I start playing with it. Exhaust and 4bbl helped it soooo much.

It’s been parked for a while though as I believe it needs freeze plugs.

That sucks, kind of a shitty job to have to do.

A while ago I had a ‘69 Corvair, and it was a running/driving project. I regret selling it, so the Barracuda is kinda taking its place. I might have to paint the driver’s door blue in honor of the Corvair, which was red-ish all over but for its blue door.

Yeah it’s most likely going to need the motor pulled to do it. Budget is restraining that at the moment.

is it just ring stuck from setting?? you might be able to just pull the plugs and pour some marvel down the cylinders , and work it free....

I believe that’s the case, the car has been sitting for quite some time. Marvel Mystery Oil is the plan to begin with, if we can get it unstuck that way and just put new rings in it, I’ll drive it like that while I build a 318 for it or something.

Plus the engine is already out of the car, the PO saved me a little work in pulling the thing out to work on it.

OH......WELL.....if its already out, you might as well blast it apart, and freshen the WHOLE mess up.(as long as you are already there) send the whole rotating assembly out to get balanced (crank, rods, pistons, harmonic balancer, flywheel, pressure plate.(i think it costs $150)) and new oil pump and bearings.

that way the engine will hold itself together for some time.
